What is Community Ministry Organization?

CMO brings people together whether they are helping or being helped. It is the visible manifestation of the Gospel’s call to action. The objective is to provide people the opportunity to serve others, and thereby make a better community. The two main purposes of CMO are to provide opportunities of service to parishioners and to meet the needs of the people in our community with cost.

How can you be a part of that call to another person? There are 5 CMO programs at the Church of the Transfiguration.

  • The Clothes Closet

  • Outreach to the Unhoused

  • The Bag Lunch Program

  • Transfiguration Parish Christmas Outreach

  • CMO Christmas Gift Giving

The "Clothes Closet" RE-OPENING!

Coordinators: Donna Pfaff & Yolanda Garcia

Outreach to the Unhoused: Volunteers distribute clothing and shoes from the Clothes Closet to the houseless encampments and to community service organizations such as Sacred Heart Community Services, The Grateful Garment Project and the Real Options Pregnancy Center.

Outreach to the Unhoused: Bill & Edna Perry (408) 718-5633

Bag Lunch Program: Monetary donations and donations of lunch items such as packaged cookies, chips, boxed drinks, sandwich bags and napkins are made into “lunch kits” which are distributed to parish volunteers. Volunteers make the sandwiches and put all the lunch items in a lunch bag. The finished lunches are then picked up and distributed to various Catholic charities and Amigo’s de Guadalupe.

Lunch Program: Bill Perry & Jim Falcone

(669) 274-6530

Transfiguration Parish Christmas Outreach: Before Christmas there is a drive for donations of socks, mittens, knit caps, towels, blankets, sleeping bags and toiletry items. These items are bagged by volunteers and then Father Tito, along with volunteers, takes these Christmas gift bags and distributes them to people in the homeless encampments.

Christmas Gift Project: This program provides Christmas toys to families who would not be able to purchase toys for their children. This program is anonymous. Volunteers purchase toys from monetary donations though donations for toys are also received. Parents provide the ages of their children and volunteers select toys for the appropriate ages. The toys are gift wrapped and are distributed to the families about two weeks before Christmas.

SOCIAL ACTION

CMO CHRISTMAS PROJECT 2021

Our Community Ministry (CMO) CHRISTMAS PROJECT 2021 took place again this year for 15 families. It was small, but loving. We were able to give gift cards, hams, and children’s/youth’s gifts to unhoused families. These families were living in their cars, and with the help of “Amigos de Guadalupe” Organization, they were able to transition to hotel rooms where they are awaiting the opportunity to secure more permanent housing. Many thanks to everyone who contributed donations to this much needed endeavor. We are most grateful for the outpouring of love of our Church of the Transfiguration Parish Community (and anyone who helped or assisted in any way). As always, we could not continue to do this without your help! You most certainly made Christmas joyful & memorable as the families look forward to a brighter future. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus Bishop O’Dowd’s Council #3474 (& their Representative: Chuck McCoy), and the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) Branch #445 (& their Representative: Jim Falcone) for providing the delicious hams. Finally, last, but certainly not least, we extend our utmost gratitude and appreciation to Christmas Project Coordinators –Edna & Bill Perry, for their many hours of planning, organizing, delivering, etc. and, “Gift Item Coordinators/Shoppers”-Lorraine Sellarole & Donna Taber for their many hours spent shopping, wrapping, & putting together the beautiful presents & gift bags for the 46 children/youth. May God bless all of you!
